Ken on the Issues
I’ve called Rancho Santa Margarita my home for nearly 20 years. I love our city and want what we all want: a safe neighborhood, beautiful parks, thriving small businesses, and an engaged and friendly community. I see a brighter future for us all. Here are the issues that I care about:

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION / DIVERSIDAD E INCLUSIÓN
I have had a career in corporate training for over 25 years now working for companies such as Apple and Gap. We leveraged the power of diversity and inclusion to help achieve success. I want RSM to be a model city for respectful public discussion and collaboration. Shutting out the voices of those who have differing viewpoints prevents us from finding the best solutions to today’s challenges. I won’t use alarmist language to demonize those with differing opinions when discussing complex city issues. City council is not a partisan office and I won’t treat it that way. I will listen to you to come up with the best ways to keep RSM vibrant and thriving.
En mi longeva carrera de corporate training (formación corporativa) he trabajado con muchas compañías incluyendo Apple y Gap, donde orienté sobre las posibilidades del poder de la diversidad e inclusión para lograr el éxito. Por lo tanto, quiero que el Rancho Santa Margarita sea una ciudad modelo para fomentar la discusión pública respetuosa y la colaboración entre diversa ciudadanía. TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY / TRANSPARENCIA Y RESPONSABILIDAD
I am a strong champion for transparency and ethics, which I will bring to all city business. Residents can count on me to be open and honest about the pros and cons of items before consideration of the city council. I will bring an independent perspective to the matters before the city council informed by input from residents of all backgrounds.
Como candidato al consejo que aboga por la transparencia y la ética, me comprometo a implementar estos valores si soy elegido. Los ciudadanos de Rancho Santa Margarita pueden confiar en que seré honesto sobre las cuestiones que se presenten ante el consejo municipal. Mi perspectiva acerca de los asuntos tratados ante el consejo será independientes e informados por la ciudadanía.
PUBLIC SAFETY / SEGURIDAD PÚBLICA
The quality of life in RSM depends on keeping the city safe from crime and wildfires. I support a fully funded police force and will work to keep Rancho Santa Margarita one of the safest cities in the state. I support pay increases for fire fighters and will encourage all homeowners to take advantage of the free home assessment by the OC Fire Authority. And I will survey the needs of the community to create programs and activities that will keep our young people engaged in enriching activities. E-bikes are on the rise, and they are a great method of transportation, but we must take steps to make using them safer.
Opino que la calidad de vida en Rancho Santa Margarita depende de proteger a la ciudadanía tanto del crimen como de los incendios forestales. Por ello, es necesario un cuerpo policial adecuadamente financiado por el ayuntamiento para que Rancho Santa Margarita sea una de las ciudades más seguras del estado. Del mismo modo, el incremento salarial a los bomberos es fundamental. Además, motivaré a los propietarios a que aprovechen del asesoramiento gratuito de los bomberos del condado.
Dado que la juventud es el futuro, estudiaré sus necesidades y buscaré actividades enriquecedoras de las que puedan formar parte para mejorar el bien común. Por último, el uso de las bicicletas eléctricas va en aumento y es un gran modo de transporte ecológico. Hemos de tomar precauciones para que su uso sea más seguro para todos.
HOUSING / VIVIENDA
Lack of adequate housing is a threat to economic vitality in the county as well as RSM, which just saw the closing of one of its largest stores. Our city plan was created over 20 years ago, yet there have been many changes in the way people work, shop & live. These changes provide opportunities to explore how to best utilize our land today and for the next decade, not three decades ago. Our city was assigned a modest goal to zone for an additional 680 units in the next eight years. Some of the sites approved by our city council for rezoning are currently occupied by thriving businesses which makes no sense. I will embrace the chance to allow more people to call our beautiful city home in a way that enhances our city.
El plan actual fue creado hace veinte años, pero la sociedad ha experimentado múltiples cambios en su manera de trabajar, consumir, y vivir. El presente nos dota de oportunidades para explorar nuevas formas de utilizar nuestra infraestructura tanto ahora como en el futuro. Nuestro gobierno municipal se propuso el modesto objetivo de asignar 680 viviendas adicionales en los próximos ocho años y voy a trabajar en su cumplimiento. Aprovecharé las posibilidades que las circunstancias me otorgan para permitir que más personas llamen a nuestra ciudad su hogar.
